Backlit Printing

Backlit printing uses a translucent film instead of an opaque one, so when there's an LED panel or light box behind it, the image glows through evenly instead of just reflecting light off the surface. It's a different print job from a normal flex or vinyl output — ink density has to be balanced so the image looks right both with the light off, in daylight, and with it on at night. That balance isn't automatic; too much ink in the dark areas and they go muddy once lit, too little and the bright areas wash out.

We use this mostly for illuminated shop panels, exhibition and museum light boxes, photo panels in restaurants and showrooms, and the occasional mall-kiosk-style display where the actual brief is "it needs to glow, not just print bright colours under a spotlight."

If you're planning a light box and haven't bought the panel yet, talk to us before you order it — LED spacing and diffuser thickness both affect whether the finished print looks even or shows hot spots behind it, and that's much easier to fix on paper than after the box is already built.
