MDF Letter Cutting

MDF letters are cut from medium-density fibreboard, then painted, laminated, or veneered depending on the finish you want. It's the material we suggest most for indoor reception walls, cafe and boutique interiors, and office signage where a wood-like or matte painted look fits the space better than the coolness of acrylic or the shine of metal — and where budget matters, since MDF is generally the most affordable of the letter materials.

It's an indoor material, plainly — MDF doesn't handle moisture well, so this isn't what we'd use for an outdoor shopfront or anywhere exposed to rain. Within an interior, though, it takes paint extremely well, holds crisp edges when CNC-cut, and can be finished in literally any colour rather than being limited to what a sheet material naturally comes in.

We usually cut MDF letters between 12mm and 18mm thickness for a reasonable dimensional look without unnecessary weight, then hand-finish the edges and faces before painting so the final letter doesn't show the slightly fibrous edge raw MDF has straight off the router.
